What is Social Media Web 2.0 and Its Components?

In today's growing world of Internet Marketing, there are lots of terms and acronyms that are used to represent a segment of the Internet and the marketing world. There is one term that is always discussed in Internet Marketing conversations, and that term is Web 2.0.

I have heard the term many times, and always associated it with Facebook, and Myspace, and Squidoo pages, but is that all it really means?

Web 2.0 actually is made up of more than just social networking sites. It can be a very complicated discussion if you ask the wrong person. I am going to tell you what Web 2.0 is in common knowledge, and what it has to do with the Internet.

There are actually a few components that make up Web 2.0 and they are:

  1. Social Networking Sites
  2. Sharing Sites
  3. Social Bookmarks
  4. Blogging

1. Social Networking Sites

Yes, these are the sites known as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIN, Drectmatches. These sites are used to communicate and gather new friends to share stories pictures, videos, and more content with each other. These sites are used to make new friends, and to share more content with those people. Some have used theses sites with the analogy of being at a party, where you can hang out make friends and share stories.

2. Blogging

Blogging comes from the term web log, meaning you are logging your content, stories, and pictures as a log. Many consider your blog, your home. It is supposed to tell us something about you, your likes and dislikes. In your blog one should find your favorite people, stories, pictures, interest, and what you are involved in. Network marketers use it as a hub for training, support, and informational purposes. Your blog should be a representation of you.

3. Social Bookmarking Sites

These sites are used to bookmark your favorite Web pages and sites. There are a variety of bookmarking sites, technorati, reddit, digg, stumblupon. These sites have now turned into an area for ranking your favorite sites, and choosing the most popular content. Stories, pictures, blogs, any kind of content that is placed on the web can be placed on theses sites and given a ranking. Then these stories are shared and spread across the web, blogs, pages, social sites.

4. Content Sharing Sites

These are sites that are used for articles and other content that is placed on the web. Squidoo is a site that allows you to place you thoughts, articles, reviews, and other content on the web. Hubpages is another example that gives you a medium to express yourself and your talents on the web. This content can be shared and found on Search engines and used to create traffic to another site.

When all of theses sites are tied together to promote each other and its contents, the sky is the limit when it comes to being on the internet now. These sites have made it very easy to communicate and share with each other. Information is spread like wildfire now. This is the main reason the Internet is now being used by Network Marketers. There is no other better way to network and build relationships than the Internet. I can only imagine what is in store for the future.
